Stephen is just over 8 weeks old now and I can hardly believe it! We have really gotten to know each other by now and my love for him grows a little everyday...he's so cool! He started smiling at me at 4 weeks and now it's a regular part of our day :) I LOVE it! When he wakes in the morning we talk for awhile and he is all smiles and coos. He's generally taking good naps now, at least one long one per day and a few cat naps here and there. When he wakes from a nap he loves to smile and talk. Also when he's on the change table, he loves for me to talk to him :)
We have been getting out of the house here and there...going to the grocery store, Target, or even meeting Allison and the cousins for some baby shopping :) SLO (his initials) does not like his car seat yet, so when we go out, I bring my Moby wrap and wear him :) As you can imagine, I get sweet comments everywhere I go about my little man...of course everyone's first comment is "Look at his hair!!!" That's definitely SLO's trademark!
I go back to work in two weeks and I am already sad about it. I know that we will get into a great routine and I will adjust, it's just going to be hard b/c every day SLO and I strengthen our bond and he's pretty awesome...I'm jealous that someone else will get to spend so much time with him!

one month appointment
Today was Stephen's 1 month appointment and it went great! He weighs 10 lbs 15 oz and is in the 75% for weight. He is 24.5 inches long and in the 96% on height and his head circumference is in the 50%.
He had to get his 2nd Hep B vaccine and was a super trooper when it came to that...just a couple of quick yelps and he was fine!
I talked to the doc about his sleeping patterns (he only sleeps on his stomach or on me!) and the doc wants me to try letting him 'soothe' his self to sleep and I have just tried to lay him down. It's so hard to listen to the crying and I really hope he can figure it out :( Poor thing!

4 weeks
Four weeks from today, I had a 2 hour old baby :) I can hardly believe it. Although many napless days and sleepless nights go by very slllooowwlllyyy, in the big picture time is flying by! Stephen and I are getting to know each other a little better every day. For instance, I have learned that he prefers to sleep on his belly (despite the fact that it's 'frowned' upon by most) and Stephen has learned that Mommy is a much better Mommy when he takes naps and allows her some down time during the day!
He is a HUGE challenge and while I thought I knew what I was signing up for, this is by far the hardest thing I have ever done. However, I LOVE it and I love him. My life will never be complete without him and I feel pretty darn lucky! :)

Stephen's Arrival Story
I wanted to experience my water breaking so bad!! And throughout my pregnancy I held faith that my body would naturally go into labor and I even had our hospital bags and car seat installed to prepare for it! Well, D Day was March 21st and 8 days later...nothing! So when I went to the doctor on Monday, March 29th, Dr. Wilson said its probably time to induce. My cervix wasn't cooperating and opening on its own, so he felt I would benefit form cervical ripening which was administered the night before my actual induction at the hospital.
So I left the doctor's office at 11:30 am and was to return to the hospital b/t 5:30 and 6pm with bags packed. I called Steve and told him the news (he was at work) and he left at lunch to head home. We repacked our hospital bags, made many phone calls to assure Maddie would be taken care of, and said our goodbyes to a child free home.
We arrived at the hospital at 6 pm and Dr Warren gave me the ripening at 8 pm and then all we could do is wait. We played on the internet and watched about 4 movies! Finally at 3:30am I fell asleep and then the nurse woke me at 5:30 and told me to enjoy a shower before they began the pitocin. Around 7 am they began the pitocin and Dr Wilson came to check my progress; at this point I was dilated to about a 2.5-3. So the nurse was instructed to up my pitocin every half hour. My contractions remained light until about noon, at which time they began to strengthen. I played on facebook, chatted with my Mom and friends on Yahoo, and played Uno and Majong (sp?) to pass the time and keep my mind busy.
Around 2 pm I called for the epidural as the pain was getting pretty unbearable. I was dialed to a 4 and at 2:45 the epidural was in effect. Then the nurse came in at 3:30 and noticed I was trembling a little bit and said that can be a sign that its time to push, so she checked me and sure enough I was dilated to a 10! I thought the end was near, but Stephen had other ideas. He was still sitting pretty high and after two hours of pushing the doctor said more than likely I would need a c section to get him out...he had a pretty big head!
So at 6:49pm March 30th, 2010, I heard Stephen cry for the first time. I was crying and it was amazing! The doctor and nurses all exclaimed "Wow, he's huge!" "He has a head full of long hair!" "He is beautiful!!" They brought him to me and let me see him and kiss him before they started the post op procedures. The nurse announced that Stephen was 9 lbs 4 oz and 21.5 inches long! I had a feeling he would be a big boy, but that was still a wonderful surprise! About 45 mins later I was lying in post op and Steve brought Stephen to me. I held him for the first time and was overjoyed!
Once I had a chance to breastfeed a little, we were rolled into my post pardum room where my mom, mother in law, sister, and sister in law were there waiting for us. They all exclaimed at his size and beauty :)

Hopefully today is the day! Steve and I packed our bags yesterday afternoon and checked into the hospital around 6 pm. Dr. Warren came in and administered a cervical ripening agent and then we tried to sleep through the night. I finally fell asleep at 3:45am and slept for about an hour and a half! But I tried to at least lay quietly and relax for most of the evening. (the beds are sooooo uncomfortable though!)
Dr. Wilson should be here around 7 am this morning to check and see if the ripening kicked my cervix into gear and then to start the pitocin. He is expecting me to deliver today so BO's birthday should be March 30, 2010. :)
I'm trying to stay relaxed and not let my anxieties and worries get the best of me. It's a short amount of time to be uncomfortable for such an amazing reward!

41 Weeks!
It's down to the wire now...just a couple of days until BO is going to forced to meet me! I have been walking and staying very active all weekend in hopes that he might decide to come on his own before D Day, but so far it's looking like Tuesday. We are scheduled for induction first thing Tuesday morning and God willing he will be born on that day, May 30th. I'm not losing hope that he may decide to arrive before then, but I am fine with waiting a couple of days.
This afternoon Steve and I are going to a movie and are going to relax, knowing that it's going to be a while until we are able to go to the movies together again! We planted a garden yesterday (green peppers, habenero (sp?) peppers, potatoes, carrots, onions, and cilantro) and worked around the yard. Today we have been cleaning up the house and tomorrow I plan to finish that up, so hopefully when we come home from the hospital, the house and yard will be nice and neat :)
This pregnancy has really been amazing! I pray that the delivery will follow suit and prove to be a quick and comfortable experience. I'm so excited to meet my son and hold and love him!

Wed Appt
MY doctor's exact words were "Your cervix is kind of not opening at all". I'm like OK?!?!?! He ended up saying that it was barely (like a fingertip) opening, so I guess that's technically something.
Since my appointment yesterday though, I have experienced a few symptoms of labor including some contractions, so I'm pretty happy with that :) BO remains VERY active, so perhaps he feels like he's got plenty of room in there and he's happy to stay for while. Only God knows, so I'll TRY to be patient!

39.5 weeks
Maternity leave starts today!! It's quarter til 8 and I am still in my pjs on the couch :) I have set a goal of meeting BO by next Friday...I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment, but I have to have a goal in mind. I am going to the Doc today and I am hoping to hear that something, ANYTHING is going on down there. We shall see. Sunday is the official due date, I wonder if I'll be part of the 3% of women that deliever on D day...

37 Weeks and I just can't stop!
Well, I just can't stop playing in the nursery! Allison and I went on our last pre-baby shopping extravaganza this past weekend and she found this wall art that matches my nursery theme! What a great find Al :) I think I'm finally done, but it's just so much fun decorating and anticipating my little man's arrival. 37 weeks and everything is holding strong...I have a feeling BO is pretty comfy in there!

Saturday Projects
Steve and I decided to work on some baby projects this weekend. He put together the Pack n play/changer and I assembled the bouncer. We are getting ready a little more everyday for Baby O :)

Nursery is Done! :)
I found these two white shelves at Lowe's this weekend and put them up as the finishing touch in the nursery. I wanted somewhere to display toys, pictures, nick knacks, etc. Although we have shoved ALOT of stuff in a tiny space, I think the room is fun and will be intriguing for Baby Owens. Four weeks and counting...he's going to be here soon!!

The nursery is close to complete!
The nursery is almost done! I am still hunting for a cool rug and some wall shelving to go above the glider (and of course for a huge lime frog!). I have had so much fun the past few days working on it and I love to spend time in the nursery just thinking about the bundle of love getting ready to live in there!

Showered with Love!
Today was my rescheduled baby shower and it was fantastic!!! We had a wonderful turn out despite the fact that we got 4 inches of snow last night (AGAIN!!). Everyone was able to get here safely and enjoy the winter wonderland :) Allison, Brittany, and Jade did a great job organizing and setting up for the shower....the games were a big hit! We played a game where the guests had to cut a piece of yarn the length they thought would go around my waist. It was so fun to see how different everyone's guess was...Morgan's (my cousin) daughter Hanna won; her string was almost exactly the size of my waist!
The second game was the dirty diaper guessing game. Brittany melted various candy bars in the diapers and everyone had to guess what they were...it was hilarious to watch people's faces as they sniffed and spread the "poo" to see if it contained nuts or maybe another hint as to what chocolate treat it may be. I believe Jen Laporta proved to be the poo princess!
The food, friends, and family were overflowing and I felt so overwhelmed by everyone's love and generosity. Now I'm ready to play in all of my precious new goodies :)
